The Nomentano is one of the most noble districts of Rome, because it was built just to accommodate the sumptuous residences of some of the most important families of the Roman nobility, like the Patrizi, the Massimo and the Torlonia.
The houses where these families have lived are among the most fascinating of the city: Villa Patrizi, built in 1717, which currently houses the Ministry of Transport and the Italian State Railways, was celebrated by the great German writer Goethe in his book "Journey in Italy ", while Villa Torlonia, surrounded by a beautiful romantic park beneath which the Jewish catacombs are found dating back to the third and fourth centuries. It's one of the most important neoclassical complex in the world, thanks to the genius of two of the most representative architects of the age, Giuseppe Valadier (who also built Piazza del Popolo and the Pincio terrace) and G.B. Caretti. Inside the park of Villa Torlonia is also one of the most curious and fascinating places Rome: the "house of owls", a must-see.
A place you should definetely visit is Porta Pia, an important piece of Italian history (the famous "Breach" which made possible the proclamation of Rome as the capital of the Italian State) and even a memorable work of art, being one of the recent works of the Renaissance master Michelangelo Buonarroti.
During the past century, the area has become home to many embassies, and one of the most exclusive residential areas of the capital and heart of high-fashion shopping, especially in the streets between Piazza Bologna and Corso Trieste.
Just between Piazza Bologna and Corso Trieste, there are the following bed and breakfasts, which all have air conditioning, private bathroom and all kinds of options, in whose rooms you can enjoy a relaxing holiday in Rome with elegance.
