Stay in Rome in one of the apartments near Piazza del Popolo listed in this section and it may be the best and cheapest choice for you: you will be surrounded by art, beauty and history like nowhere else in the world.
Describing the beauty found in and around Piazza del Popolo, would require an infinite number of words and images that still would not be enough to make the slightest idea of what splendor is flaunted or hidden in this beautiful square in Rome. Many tourists are enchanted by visiting the so-called "twin churches" (although not exactly the same) which are at the heart of the trident that marks the beginning of the three major roads that start from Piazza del Popolo: Via del Babuino, Via del Corso and Via Ripetta.
Santa Maria in Montesanto, one of two "twin churches" is from 1953 the seat of the Mass of the artists: every Sunday is celebrated here a ceremony that includes works by artists and personalities in the world of culture. The binding of this church with the artistic and cultural environment is also characterized by the fact that here take place the funerals of many and TV and cultural world personalities.
The other "twin church" is Santa Maria dei Miracoli. On its outer balustrade stand 10 statues depicting saints. Its plan is circular, in comparison to Santa Maria in Montesanto's plan which is elliptical. The four side chapels and the deep chancel of the church are covered with works of art of inestimable value.
Under both "twin churches" are the remains of two ancient pyramid tombs dating to the Augustan age. These two monuments used to be the entrance to the Campo Marzio, like the twin churches are today.
