Spending a holiday staying in an apartment on Via Veneto is definitely the most intimate and comfortable way to discover Rome . Via Veneto is not only the street of Fellini's Dolce Vita, but also a street that is in all of its aspects the center, the heart of Rome's history, a street that preserves and guards its secret places and past memories that not many know anymore. Near Piazza Barberini, right on Via Veneto, is one of the most incredible and legendary churches of the world: the church of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
The church is known as the Church of the Capuchins, as it is the presence of several capuchin friars to determine its characteristics. Of course, there's nothing wrong with a church in which there are many friars, were it not that the Capuchins are actually a myriad of skeletons.
All the underground part of the church is completely decorated with the bones of over 4000 friars: a curious and creepy sight. Visitors who cross the threshold are also greeted by a sign which reminds us all that "we were what you are, and what we are you will be." Of course, the vision of this place is not suitable for the most impressionable.
There is another story about this unique church and it'is the story of a painting of the master Guido Reni depicting the Archangel Michael who hunts Lucifer. Not many people know that Lucifer is none other than Pope Innocent X.
In 1635, Guido Reni painted Cardinal Giovanni Battista Pamphili as the appearance of Satan while being crushed by the Archangel, as the important prelate had spoken ill of him. In 1644, the cardinal was elected pope and then the painter justified himself saying that Satan had appeared to him in person, and that it wasn't his fault if they looked alike!
