Rome is a city of many aspects: ancient history and modernity, architectural perfection and chaotic traffic blend perfectly in the maze of its streets, such as Via dei Fori Imperiali, Via del Corso and Via Veneto. Staying in a bed and breakfast is the most practical and economical way to capture each of the aspects and facets of this complex city.
Even on a single street in Rome, you can find elements of different cultures and sometimes not well-known. Via Veneto is widely known for its nightlife, glitz and fun, thanks to the many local and upscale restaurants that have made it famous around the world after the film "La Dolce Vita" by Federico Fellini, which was filmed on this street.
But on the underground of Via Veneto you can find the exact opposite of the glossy and chic atmosphere of this area of Rome. Entering the church of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, known better to Romans as the Capuchins' Church, after admiring the precious works of art that adorn the walls, you could also explore one of the most fascinating but at the same time mysterious and disturbing views of the world : in the basement of the church is in fact a cemetery entirely decorated with the skeletons of more than four thousand Capuchin friars who, with an inscription at the entrance, remind us that "we were what you are, and what we are you will be" .
Even more curious stories have inspired the story of the same church, one of which is evidenced by a painting in which the Archangel Michael crushes the head of Satan. The devil is portrayed with the likeness of Pope Innocent X by painter Guido Reni, who used his face as a diabolical model after having a fight with the important religious man.
